Wolf Rock - 27 August 2017

Published Sun 27 Aug 2017

We were all pretty excited about this dive.

In preceding weeks Facebook had been full of images of Manta Rays, huge schools of Grey Nurse Sharks, and flocks of Eagle and Bull Rays.

Most of us stayed over on Saturday night. Sunday dawned bright and fine. Wolf Rock Dive Centre's new boat definitely looked the business though the number of divers meant space was at a premium.

Unfortunately it must have been a day off for the mega-fauna but we saw a Manta Ray and a Grey Nurse Shark of the same dive, which was a first for me. Visibility was atmospheric, possibly the reason that our group and our guide became separated on the first dive. Luckily she found us again but not before one diver had deployed his DSMB in anticipation of a group ascent!

The Humpbacks were active though and we were treated to one surfacing very close to the boat and swimming just beneath us.

We'll definitely be back to Wolf Rock, but maybe next July in the hope of a more Facebook-worthy day under the water.
