O2 Administration Course

Published Sun 19 Jan 2020

Brisbane BSAC is a club that prides itself in having a diverse and multi-skilled membership with a multitude of special diving interests; from wrecks to reefs, technical to pleasure diving.  The one thing that links all of us is our ability, as a club and as individuals, to stay safe as well as have fun!  Part of this is learning the skills of oxygen administration that serves to bolster the rescue and basic life support (BLS) skills taught to all BSAC divers.

Laura delivered a Sunday of learning that allowed the uninitiated to learn new skills as well as the “old and bold” to explore how they can fine tune theirs.  Six of us turned up to Toowong Library and kicked off with a refresher in BLS and concluded the day by practicing some mini scenarios involving the use of oxygen administration equipment.  Mark Stenhouse demonstrated his acting prowess as the designated “dummy” for our practice runs and injected realism by not quite knowing what was wrong with him.

Four of the six attendees are instructors; so we benefited from a range of teaching styles which generated some great discussion about leading practices.  A special mention has to go to Chris, the course’s resident Doc, who was able to answer all of the layperson “what if” questions we could throw at him.

In Summary – a great and informative day that is at the very heart of BSAC’s raison d'être.
