Munda, Solomon Islands 2019 overseas trip

Published Sat 10 Aug 2019

Our third annual overseas trip was to Munda in the Solomon Islands. We landed into the hot and humid tropical weather and were welcomed by the local ukulele band. After a short walk to our accommodation we got settled into the beachside bar and got ready for a week of diving in warm water.

Over the following week we dived a variety of sites, from reefs and walls to several WW2 plane and ship wrecks. There was also a night dive where we got to try out fluoro diving which was a first for most of us and gave us a different perspective on what we’d been looking at in the daylight. Surface intervals were generally spent on local islands including the PT109 base where JFK was based during WW2.

There were further non-diving trips to a local museum, Munda school, and Skull Island, plus a chaotic handing out of party horns to the kids at the market.
