Julian Rocks

The weather was kind, the water temperature amazingly balmy. Chris took the opportunity to run through some training exercises with side slung diver trainee’s Laura and Ray, with Gavin observing.

I had a long drive down from Noosa with a 3.30am start, but it was worth it. The variety of sea-life on the rock exceeded expectation. A beautiful yellow leaf fish that Christina pointed out within two minutes of the dive was spectacular. A number of massive bull rays captivated us with their elegant dance displays. A couple of grey nurse sharks cruised among the rocks throughout both the dives. My big find was a massive Spanish Dancer sitting on top of a rocky outcrop. Where was my photographer buddy when I needed him?

Hannah pointed out an exotic Blue Dragon Nudibranch on both dives. Not an easy animal to detect. Egg cowries with magnificent iridescent mantles hid themselves amongst the coral’s, as well as multi coloured moray’s peeking out of their lairs.

An excellent day’s diving all in all.
