Chilly Wooli - 1-3 July 2016

Published Tue 05 Jul 2016

Yay! I was finally going on a Brisbane-BSAC diving trip! The Wooli dive shop have great accommodation above and beside the shop, so we had the big house which was great. We were treated to Will's culinary delights (all and sundry were pushed out of the kitchen as he needs his space to concentrate) and we got to watch thrilling TV on Saturday night of the Federal election. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, the occupant below in the other house decided that all alarms, bells and whistles were to go off at 5.30am, so I was awake well before sun up.

Russell lost a camera overboard on his first dive, but I'm told that is a common thing, so I thought of giving him a lanyard or clip, but was also told he already had one of those too!!! I'd left my camera on my living room floor, so no diving photos from me this weekend. The water temperature on the Saturday was 19 degrees Celsius and dropped to 18 degrees on Sunday. I came prepared though and took flasks with hot water in them for my trusty hot water bottle that got shoved down the back of my wet suit on each dive, and I had heat packs for the surface interval. Its a wonder I could even move as I had on a sleeveless sharkskin top, full length lavacore, 5mm wet suit, lavacore socks, boots, gloves and hood ..... I've now ordered a dry suit thanks to Mel's help and I will NOT be doing another winter this cold again!!!

The diving was a bit murky and surgy, but generally we all had good dives. There was a lot of fish life which sometimes isn't there when the viz is clearer, and the odd shark appeared out of nowhere keeping us alert to what was around the next corner!!!

Thanks everyone for a great weekend!
