Event information
Registrations for this event are closed.
Description: We have chartered a Manta Lodge boat (9 places). We're booked into the afternoon dive. This is peak shark season, so expect visits to Shark Alley unless other sites are offering more.
Organiser: Gavin Wills - gavin.wills@pm.me
Who should go? This trip will be suitable for all diver grades. BUT the sites around Straddie can be subject to some more challenging conditions. There are no Manta Lodge guides in the water on these charters.
- New or rusty members must have done their checkout dive with the club before coming to Straddie.
- Like all open water sites around Brisbane, Straddie sites can sometimes have some swell, surge, current and/or lower visibility. Divers should be fit, confident and capable of dealing with a range of open water conditions.
- We're diving from a RHIB. It can be bouncy, wet and cramped.
- This is a club charter - no guides in the water. We dive as teams and get ourselves back to the boat using the pilotage skills taught in BSAC Ocean Diver training.
If you're not comfortable with any of these things, this may not be the trip for you. If required, build up your skills and confidence on other club dives or do a guided trip first.
Equipment: Weights and air cylinders will be supplied by Manta Lodge, included in the price. They can hire you other kit and refill your personal cylinders if you bring them. All other diving gear is your responsibility. ALL DIVERS need to carry a dive computer, knife/line cutter, whistle, DSMB/safety sausage, and snorkel. Please arrange with the Equipment Officer well in advance if club kit is required.
Costs: Diving: this is a club charter: $195 per double dive including weights and aluminium air cylinders. Ferry tickets are $22.
Transfers: Manta Lodge will pick divers up from the Gold Cats terminal at Dunwich, but only for the two pre-dive ferries (05:45 and 10:15). If you use the passenger ferry at other times you will need to catch a Straddie bus from Dunwich, or make other arrangements for pickup and transfer to and from Manta Lodge.
Payment: When we get your registration, the system will send an invoice. Full payment into the club's bank account will secure a place on the trip. Once signed up, the system will e-mail you deposit details. This will be non-refundable, unless you find a suitable replacement. If you book to dive and the dive proceeds then payment is expected.
Waitlist: If the trip is fully booked on the website and you want to be put on a waitlist (in-case of drop outs or more spaces being added) please send an email to the DM.
